A Parent & Child Literacy Program for Active Minds

Flippers Book List 👇🏼

Welcome to The Reading Flippers™, a joyful, inclusive literacy program created to help children discover that there is more than one way to engage with a good book.

Some children sit quietly while they read. Others wiggle, fidget, move around, draw, flip through pages, ask questions, or listen while their hands and bodies stay busy. The Reading Flippers™ celebrates those differences.

Our program fosters a connection between parents and children through engaging read-alouds, interactive activities, movement, discussions, and creative experiences that transform reading into a delightful and enjoyable activity, rather than a mandatory task.

We believe a child doesn’t have to sit perfectly still to be an engaged listener, an imaginative thinker, or a developing reader.

🍦 Meet Scoop & Read™

Sometimes, creating a calm and enjoyable environment can help children feel more comfortable and engaged during reading time. Read & Scoop incorporates the simple joy of an ice cream treat to create a positive association with reading, encourage participation, and make story time something children look forward to.

Scoop & Read™ is our signature parent-and-child reading experience, combining the joy of books with the fun of ice cream!

Families come together to enjoy a story, participate in interactive literacy activities, talk about what they read, and create positive memories around books.

Because sometimes the best way to get children excited about reading is to make reading an experience they look forward to.

🥅 Our Mission

The mission of The Reading Flippers™ is to create an inclusive and engaging literacy community where children can explore books in ways that support their individual needs, interests, and learning styles while strengthening the connection between children and their parents or caregivers.

👁️ Our Vision

We envision a world where every child sees themselves as a reader, feels confident participating in literacy activities, and understands that learning can happen through movement, curiosity, conversation, creativity, and play.

🙌🏽 Our Goals

Through The Reading Flippers™, we aim to:

  • Encourage a love of reading and storytelling.
  • Increase parent-child reading time and connection.
  • Support listening and reading comprehension.
  • Build children’s confidence as readers.
  • Encourage children to participate in literacy activities without requiring prolonged stillness.
  • Help parents recognize and embrace different ways children engage with books.
  • Create positive and memorable reading experiences.
  • Build a supportive community around family literacy.

Who Are the Reading Flippers? 🤸🤸🤸

The Reading Flippers™ are children who engage with stories in their own way.

They may flip pages, wiggle, move, fidget, draw, build, ask questions, or change positions while listening to a story. What matters is that they are engaged, curious, and connecting with the story.

The Reading Flippers™ welcomes children with different learning and attention needs, including children who may benefit from movement while learning. The program is designed to complement—not replace—individual educational, developmental, or professional support.

📚 Because Reading Doesn’t Always Look Still.

Why J3Russell Books?

That’s why J3Russell Books creates books designed to learn and entertain children while they read. We believe children should feel comfortable, engaged, and free to experience a story in a way that works for them.

Whether they are moving, asking questions, imagining, laughing, exploring, or simply listening, our goal is to help children grasp the story concepts while enjoying the journey.

Because when children are comfortable and engaged, reading can become more than sitting still—it becomes an experience they can connect with, understand, and remember. 📚💙

J3Russell Books™ — Where Learning Meets Self-Expression..

At The Reading Flippers™, we aren’t asking children to change who they are to enjoy a book.

We’re creating a space where they can move, explore, listen, imagine, and READ.

The Reading Flippers™
Read. Move. Listen. Connect.

🍦 Scoop & Read™ — Where Every Story Comes With a Scoop of Fun!

The Reading Flippers

The Reading Flippers Book Club™ is designed to make reading time accessible and enjoyable for all children. Children are encouraged to find a comfortable way to participate—whether they sit, wiggle, stretch, play quietly, draw, move around, or even flip—while listening to the story.

Instead of requiring every child to remain still, the reader keeps children engaged by pausing throughout the story to ask questions, encourage predictions, discuss characters, connect the story to their experiences, and check comprehension.

Group Reading

Our Philosophy

They don’t have to sit still to be part of the story.

We focus on engagement, not stillness.

A child who is moving may still be listening.
A child who is playing may still be processing.
A child who is flipping may still be learning.
A child who answers a question may show us just how much of the story they heard.

How a Reading Flippers™ Session Works

📖 READ — The author, parent, teacher, or guest reader shares the story.

🌀 MOVE — Children are allowed to move within appropriate boundaries and choose a comfortable way to participate.

👂 LISTEN — Children are encouraged to listen for characters, events, clues, vocabulary, and important details.

💬 CONNECT — The reader pauses to ask questions such as:

  • “What do you think will happen next?”
  • “Why do you think Sheila felt shy?”
  • “What would you do if you were Sheila?”
  • “What did you notice about that character?”
  • “Can you remember what happened at the beginning?”

🧠 RESPOND — Children can answer verbally, point, demonstrate, draw, act something out, or participate in another appropriate way.

The Heart of the Program

The Reading Flippers Book Club™ creates space for children to experience books without making stillness the requirement for participation.

Read. Move. Listen. Connect.

Because reading doesn’t always look still. 💙📚🌀
