Trauma-Informed Storytelling for Families

Empower, Inspire, Inform, and Educate!

Pause. Reflect. Heal. Explore. Make Time for You.

How do you make time for self-care?

Self-care isn’t always a spa day, a vacation, or a quiet morning with a cup of coffee. Sometimes, self-care is simply giving yourself permission to pause.

Life can become so busy that we take care of everyone else while quietly placing ourselves at the bottom of the list. Work, family, responsibilities, relationships, and everyday stress can leave little room to breathe.

But what happens when we begin making ourselves part of the schedule?

🌿 Self-Care Can Look Different for Everyone

For me, self-care is about creating intentional moments that allow me to heal, reflect, explore, and reconnect with myself.

Sometimes that means putting my thoughts on paper.

Sometimes it means listening to something calming and giving myself space to process what I’m feeling.

Sometimes it means planning a trip, discovering a new destination, or simply allowing myself to dream about where I want to go next.

And sometimes, self-care means doing absolutely nothing without feeling guilty about it.

💙 Hear to Heal: A Space to Pause and Reflect

One of the ways I incorporate emotional self-care is through Hear to Heal™, an emotional wellness app and companion book designed to provide guided opportunities for reflection, journaling, encouragement, and emotional care.

Hear to Heal can be used when you’re processing difficult emotions, navigating grief or life transitions, or simply checking in with yourself.

You don’t have to wait until you’re struggling to practice emotional wellness.

Sometimes healing is maintenance, too.

Whether you choose text journaling, voice journaling, guided reflections, or calming audio experiences, Hear to Heal gives you a space to slow down and listen to what may be happening within you.

🌸 A Practical 15-Minute Self-Care Routine

Self-care doesn’t have to require an entire day. Start with 15 intentional minutes and build from there.

1. Pause — 2 minutes
Put your phone aside, take a few slow breaths, and allow yourself to be present. Ask yourself: How am I really feeling today?

2. Listen — 3 minutes
Open Hear to Heal™ and choose a guided reflection, calming audio experience, or another feature that helps you slow down and reconnect with yourself.

3. Reflect — 5 minutes
Use the Hear to Heal companion book or your journal. Write without worrying about perfect grammar or having all the answers. Try these prompts:

  • What do I need today?
  • What am I carrying that I need to release?
  • What is one thing I’m grateful for?
  • What would make today feel a little better?

4. Move or Breathe — 3 minutes
Stretch, take a short walk, practice gentle breathing, or simply step outside and get some fresh air.

5. Dream & Plan — 2 minutes
Give yourself permission to look forward to something. It could be a dinner with friends, a weekend getaway, or your next travel adventure. Use Luxury Travel on a Budget to start exploring how you can create memorable experiences without overspending.

✨ Make It a Habit, Not a Chore

The goal isn’t to create another item on your already busy to-do list.

The goal is to create a small daily ritual that reminds you that you matter.

Try this routine in the morning before your day begins, during a lunch break, or in the evening when you’re ready to disconnect from the day’s demands.

And on days when 15 minutes feels impossible?

Give yourself five minutes.

Five minutes of breathing.
Five minutes of reflection.
Five minutes of listening.
Five minutes of dreaming.

Small moments of intentional self-care can become meaningful habits over time.

Your wellness deserves a place on your calendar—not just whatever time happens to be left over.

✈️ Self-Care Can Also Mean Seeing the World

And then there’s another side of self-care that I absolutely love: travel.

Travel gives us an opportunity to step outside our everyday routine.

It can introduce us to new cultures, foods, people, traditions, landscapes, and experiences. More importantly, sometimes getting away gives us the mental space to see ourselves and our lives differently.

That’s one reason I created Luxury Travel on a Budget.

Luxury doesn’t always have to mean spending thousands of dollars.

It can mean finding the beautiful hotel at the right price, enjoying an unforgettable meal without overspending, discovering hidden gems, or creating meaningful experiences while staying within your budget.

Because you deserve to experience life—not just manage it.

🧳 What If Self-Care Became an Experience?

Imagine combining emotional wellness with intentional living:

📖 Read something that inspires you.
🎧 Listen to something that helps you breathe and reflect.
✍🏽 Journal about what you’re feeling.
🌎 Explore somewhere you’ve never been.
💙 Rest without apologizing for it.
Dream about what’s next.

Self-care doesn’t have to look perfect.

It just needs to be intentional.

Your Turn?

So, let me ask you:

How do you make time for self-care?

Is it through journaling?
Travel?
Reading?
Music?
Prayer or meditation?
A quiet morning?
A night out with friends?
Or simply closing your phone and giving yourself permission to breathe?

Whatever your answer is, remember this:

You are worth the time you keep giving to everyone else.

Make room for yourself, too.
