From First Love to First Feature: A Journey of Growth and Purpose

How has a failure, or apparent failure, set you up for later success?

Come closer, I want to take you back to my teenage years—when puppy love felt like the center of the universe. My first boyfriend was a genuinely kind soul, no doubt about it. But even then, I recognized the absence of guidance and strong role models in his life—things he would’ve needed to grow into a great husband and father. Still, despite it all, he treated me with the utmost care and respect—like a young queen.

Here’s the truth: love, on its own, is never enough. He was the first man to truly respect me, and our relationship was rooted in genuine admiration. But there was a difficult reality I couldn’t ignore—he was on a different path in life. No matter how deep our connection ran, the cycle of organized visits felt like a road to nowhere. Deep down, I knew staying in that relationship would ultimately hold me back. So, I made one of the hardest decisions of my young life: I walked away, carrying the weight of what felt like a painful failure, but knowing it was the only path forward.

That moment marked the true beginning of my journey.

I joined the military—not simply to escape a crumbling fairytale, but to create a solid foundation for my future. That decision became a turning point, opening doors I never imagined possible. While serving my country, I pursued my education, earning my bachelor’s degree and later a master’s. That path eventually led me to become a published author, with over fifteen titles to my name. And yet, even with those accomplishments, I still didn’t feel like I had truly arrived.

My defining moment of success didn’t come from degrees or career milestones—it came from a quiet whisper. A gentle voice suggested I turn my book into a movie. That single comment ignited something within me—a vision, a passion, and a renewed sense of purpose.

For the past eighteen months, I’ve been fully immersed in transforming my book into a feature film. Now, for the first time, I can truly feel success approaching. Reflecting on the journey, I see that my first love—once imagined as my future—was, in reality, a stepping stone toward something far greater.

To anyone wondering how success finds us: it often reveals itself through difficult decisions, painful farewells, and unexpected detours. What once felt like a failed relationship was, in truth, the catalyst I needed to uncover my true calling. And that calling is now leading me directly toward a future as a filmmaker.

Stay tuned—this is only the beginning of my story.

Failure isn’t just a setback—it’s a stepping stone to growth, transformation, and often the very impact we’re seeking. If you’ve ever faced a moment that felt like failure, only to realize later it was leading you toward something greater, your story matters.
