Describe the most ambitious DIY project you’ve ever taken on.
When I first set out to adapt my book Judge Me Now into a movie, I knew it would be a challenge. But I didn’t realize just how much I would learn along the way. Now, after a year and a half of dedication, I’m finally reaching the finish line—and I couldn’t be prouder of this journey.
From Page to Screen: The Learning Curve
As an amateur entering the realm of book-to-movie adaptations, I faced a steep learning curve. Writing a book is one thing, but turning those words into a visual medium presents a completely different challenge. I had to consider screenplay structure, pacing, dialogue, and how to bring my characters to life in a way that resonates on screen.
The Challenges and Triumphs
There were moments of frustration—times when scenes didn’t turn out as I had imagined or when technical limitations required me to rethink my approach. However, there were also amazing moments of triumph, such as witnessing a scene come to life exactly as I envisioned or receiving positive feedback on the progress of the adaptation.
Nearing the Finish Line
As I near the final stages of this ambitious project, I can’t help but reflect on how far I’ve come. What began as an idea has evolved into a tangible reality, demonstrating that with perseverance, creativity, and a willingness to learn, anything is possible.
This experience has reinforced my belief that storytelling transcends any single medium. Whether through books or films, stories possess the power to connect, inspire, and create a lasting impact.
Would I do it again? Absolutely! I’ve already begun working on two of my other books titled Butter Me Fly: My Way Home and The Better Betty. But for now, I’m excited to celebrate the completion of this incredible journey.
