The Importance of Money Talk with Children and Teens

Let us discuss a necessary, valuable type of conversation to have with our children. Being a mother to three children who are adults and a teenager has given me an experience I am thankful I’ve learned. I taught my children at a very young age how to MAKE money. Once they understood how to generate their money, I moved on to the SAVING topic. Many would laugh when they heard, “I taught my children how to become entrepreneurs at a young age.” To explain it in detail, I wrote these books to encourage other parents to teach their children about entrepreneurship and saving money. Children can become entrepreneurs as early as five years old. I have written the book “Making Dollars Make Sense: Business Ownership at Any Age” and ”Save the Missing Penny” which gives step-by-step details on how children can generate money. Children get enthused about producing their own money. Not only will they learn different ways to make money, but they will know that the options given are safe and children-friendly. As parents, you will notice once you instill a work ethic in children, they will appreciate the value of money.

Many parents can account for their children asking for money every time they are out and about. The most effective way of changing their mindset is to teach them how to make their own money. Learning how to make money will help them appreciate the saving talk. The “saving” topic will become easier to understand when dealing with their own money. I have also put together a step-to-step guide to teach children how to save money with the book Save the Missing Penny. The book teaches children three things: how to make money, save money, and spend money efficiently. Giving your child both these books will mold them into entrepreneurship, leading them to become financially stable adults.

The determination to make and save money is so rewarding. My oldest daughter is twenty-two years old, works a full-time job, has owned her own business for the past two years, and has two savings accounts totaling over twenty thousand dollars. She has a 765 median credit score that most adults have never seen. My second daughter has a median credit score of 787 and is only nineteen years old. The money technique is all embedded in my books.

Teenagers are vulnerable individuals. I consider teens being somewhat weak because they are inexperienced. Being a teen who chooses to become educated in finance gives them an advanced step ahead of their peers. Understanding the pressure of growth in life is so natural for teens. When teenagers have the opportunity to take their finances into their own hands, like younger children, they too will gain a deeper appreciation of their capacity as young adults. To avoid your teenager experiencing any pitfalls, I created a credit scorebook for the older age group. This perfect book teaches teens how to build and manage their credit scores to exploit positive decisions later in life. The book is called Teens Soar in Their Credit Score. In this book, teens will learn the credit language and a step-by-step guide on managing their credit profile using the book as a journal. In addition, I’ve included calculations to teach them the different measures needed to manage their credit limit. The book can be used as a lifetime credit journal. I recommend using a pencil to write in the book because it will allow teens’ to write and erase credit information over time.
